Intronaut - Spaceland - UPDATED 3/13/10

8/26/08 @ The Knitting Factory, Hollywood, CA

An intense metal night indeed, my friend's in National Sunday Law opened and awed the audience for being a 2 pc. Then Mouth of the Architect showed how it's done w/a 5 pc (talk about low register!!!). Followed by Behold... The Arctopus which annihilated anything that was left after MOTA. Late start in recording the Intronaut set, so the beginning is cut...

I will be redoing this show by re-eq'ing the entire set. The other bands will get the same treatment as well in the future.

An awesome night indeed, there were great performances by Black Elk (Portland, OR), Made Out Of Babies, Intronaut, and Kylesa. Intronaut always put on a great show. Kylesa was pretty good. I have to listen to the Made Out Of Babies set to really find an opinion on this band again since I don't have much of their stuff. Same with Black Elk.

Wanted to get the Intronaut set out of the way and was anxious to hear that one first. I will get around to the other sets another time. NOTE (10/5/09): I redid this set cause the bass might have been a little strong in the 1st try, this batch will be less bass-y.

$12 to get in, 6 bands playing starting before 7pm... what a night!!! I used to hang out at the Cobalt Cafe in my younger years. It was weird being back, but was awesome seeing one of my favorite bands play. Wasn't too familiar w/the other 5 bands, altho 3 of them were high school metal bands 2 of which kind of impressed me for the technical aspect of music.

One of the highlights of the night was the 4th opening act, Slaughterbox. A super technical death-grind act from Red Bluff, CA. It's a trio; 2 guitarist and a growling drummer. The blast beats furious, the guitar riffage was awesome and over the top. These guys stole the show for me. NOTE: I didn't record them not knowing what they would sound like, until next time!!!

2/19/10 @ Spaceland, Hollywood, CA

Well, it started raining prior to getting in which was 10 or 15 minutes of getting wet before the show unless you found cover! This was a great show, 4 bands (really 3 bands that are in the vein of metal, Mountains of California were just rock) total that raised the bar for LA bands to be this good. The turnout was great for Black Math Horseman and Ancestors, but by the time that Intronaut went on, 3/4 of the audience was left to enjoy the 3 new songs they played! As per Intronaut's request, I excluded the 3 new songs from the downloads. I'll add them later after the album is finalized and released.

Black Math Horseman was tight, better than their 2nd performance (that I saw) in which they had several technical difficulties through out the set. It was an off night that night, but the Spaceland show was great! The show was sold out by the time BMH went on. It was a good crowd!

I had never heard of Ancestors until this show happened. I was impresssed for their songs were fairly long (15-17 minutes) and the many changes that the songs went were cool. Good Drone Vibes!
